Don’t Start Digging Yet - Avail of Oil Tank Scanning!

Did you know that you can find out if you have an oil tank on your property before you start digging it up? Many people are unaware of this fact and think that the whole process of dealing with oil tanks is scary, messy, arduous and expensive. Thankfully, due to twenty first century technology and oil tank scanning, this is not the case anymore.

Because of the fact that you live in British Columbia, oil tanks are an issue that most property owners in the province are going to have to deal with. This is because, by law, you cannot sell a property if there is an oil tank on it. You would think that you would be able to tell visually quite quickly if there is an oil tank on the grounds of your property, as they are large and obvious things, but unfortunately most oil tanks in BC are buried underground. When the majority of people in the province switched to natural gas over a half of a century ago and the oil tanks became obsolete, the tanks were drained and left in place.

The government then became concerned about the repercussions that this would have on the environment. Even though the oil tanks were emptied when they stopped being used, and sometimes filled with sand, there is a risk of residual oil leaking out as the tank breaks down, so it is the law that people should remove them.

Luckily, you will not have to dig up your entire garden to see if you have one if you avail of oil tank scanning. This simple oil tank scanning will use ground penetrating radar technology to see if there is something there, without the need for excavation. Oil tank scanning is simple to set up and will effectively tell you whether or not you have an oil tank on your property.
