What to Do With Oil Tanks

Oils tanks are a common problem for British Columbia residents. This is because around fifty years ago, the province of BC switched from oil to natural gas as its main source of energy. Because of this move, oil tanks became obsolete and were often buried to be kept out of site.

The problem arose when people realized that these oil tanks could be an issue for the environment. Yes, most oil tanks were emptied, but residual oil was sometimes left over and there was a chance that it could leak into the soil. A law was then made to ensure they they were removed. If you own a property, it is your duty to remove the oil tank. This means that you cannot sell a property without having the buried oil tank removed first.

Many people think that this can be a big problem and that it will take a lot of effort to have it removed. This is not actually the case. Getting oil tanks removed from your premises is easier than you think.

The first thing to do is to see if you actually have oil tanks on the grounds. You might not know and won’t be able to see it if it is buried underground. This can be done by an oil tank removal company with special equipment, using radar technology, and the ground does not have to be dug up in order to find an oil tank, or rule one out.

If there is an oil tank on the grounds then it will have to be dug up. But as the radar has told you exactly where it is, then only the surrounding area needs to be dug up. Oil tanks can then be taken apart by the company in a controlled manner and removed from the ground bit by bit without contaminating the environment. The parts will then be taken away by the company and recycled in an environmentally friendly manner.

The oil tanks will then be gone from your home and you will be free to sell your property. See, it’s easier than you think!
